County Councillor for Upper Gipping Division
District Councillor for Mendlesham Ward
First elected in 2003 as District Councillor representing Mendlesham Ward which originally included Cotton. Re-elected in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and again in May 2023 with a majority over all other parties.
First elected as Suffolk County Councillor in 2009 representing Upper Gipping Division, re-elected in 2013, 2017 and 2021 with over 60% of the vote.
- Andrew was the first ever elected Green Party District Councillor in Suffolk
- He is Cabinet Member for Heritage, Planning and Infrastructure at Mid Suffolk District Council
- He is the Group’s representative on the Joint Local Plan working group
- Andrew was Leader of the Green, Liberal Democrat and Independent Group at County from 2017 to 2018
- He is spokesperson for Housing and Economic Development at County and is a member of the Local Government Association’s Innovation Board
- Andrew is a member of the Elmswell/Wetherden Quarry Liaison Group
- He was instrumental in setting up the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts in Stowmarket
- Andrew helped set up the community woodland known as Carter’s Meadow
- He has recently built his own environmentally sustainable home
- Andrew was born and bred in Suffolk and lives in Cotton
