Sizewell C "A pointless vanity project"

17 January 2018

Robert Lindsay, Green Party County Councillor in Suffolk, and spokesperson for Suffolk Green Party said:

“Even before it has been built, Hinkley C power station has already been priced out of any rational energy market. The price consumers will pay for energy from the latest offshore windfarms has already dropped below the 35-year guaranteed fixed price of energy we will all have to pay for EDF’s nuclear station at Hinkley. The cost of renewables will continue to drop faster than the cost of nuclear power, leaving Sizewell C looking like a pointless Franco-Chinese vanity project.

To build one over-priced nuclear station is unfortunate, to allow EDF to build another one on the Suffolk coast looks like carelessness.

Renewables investment in Suffolk will create far more jobs here than another nuke, and have a far lower burden on our energy bills.”
