Opposition groups at Suffolk County Council are coming together to demand a special council meeting is held before the authority’s cabinet decides the future of home to school transport.
Labour education spokesman Jack Abbott will propose a motion to council later this month, seconded by the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat, Green and Independent Group, Andrew Stringer, calling for the meeting to debate the final home-to-school transport proposal. The consultation has now drawn to a close and with nearly 4,000 responses.
Mr Abbott said; “I’m delighted to have received cross party backing for this non-partisan proposal. This is one of the most significant changes to Suffolk’s education system for many years.
Mr Stringer said; “I’m very pleased to second this motion. There is an important point to be made about democratic representation, and I welcome the opportunity for all Councillors to debate the final proposals.”
