Green councillors express alarm at rising staff absence due to mental health issues
Mid Suffolk Green Group leader Rachel Eburne said:
“The doubling of staff days lost due to mental health issues during 2018/19 compared with 2017/18 is of great concern.
It had been thought that the previous upward trend was due to concerns about the move from Needham and Hadleigh to central Ipswich and subsequently finding the working environment in the new offices difficult to settle into. There must be other underlying causes which need to be considered including ensuring staff have a satisfactory work/life balance.
Staff are our most important asset and we would like to see further work done to understand why staff feel this way and then put an appropriate plan in place to address it.”
On behalf of Babergh Greens, Councillor Robert Lindsay added:
“I suspect constant Government cuts and interference in the way the council is run is a factor”
Note: Cllr Eburne is on BBC Suffolk at 7.05am Wednesday 17th July
