Support for anti-racist campaigns

5 June 2020

As reactions to the horrific death of George Floyd at police hands spread from the USA to Britain, councillors in Mid Suffolk’s Green Group have welcomed and endorsed a statement to staff and members from the Chief Executive, Arthur Charvonia.

The council says :

“George Floyd’s murder is another tragic example of social inequality. We stand with those compelled to respond and will be part of the solution. We’ll never tolerate hate or prejudice because we want our district to be a place that everyone is proud to call home “

Group leader councillor Rachel Eburne said:

“We fully support the statement from the Chief Executive and stand with any action to eradicate racism, hate crime and any form of discrimination. In today’s society we believe everyone should have the right to live their lives free from discrimination and prejudice and we should be doing everything we can to support our communities to achieve this.”
