Local Plan delay letter published

29 May 2020

Dear Editor,

While it is true, as reported (EADT 27th May 2020 “Why has a key blueprint for future housing development in Suffolk been delayed?) that last year's scheduled elections delayed Mid Suffolk and Babergh's Joint Local Plan, the real delay is years of inaction by the ruling Conservatives.

In 2014 we, as the Opposition Group, urged the Council to get moving with a revised Local Plan so that communities could choose where they wanted development rather than have it forced upon them.  We kept asking and in July 2015 were told by the then Conservative Leader to stop asking questions.  We were even served with a legal letter saying that we were in danger of bringing the council into disrepute.

This Joint Local Plan could have been adopted long ago if the Conservatives had given it the priority its importance deserved back in 2014 and since.  We want to question what is in it and still have not seen a final submission draft.  No doubt we will once again be accused of asking too many questions.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Eburne

Leader of the Opposition

Mid Suffolk District Councillor (Green)
