Electric vehicle charging - Mid Suffolk near the bottom of the league table

17 June 2020

New data published by the Government's Department of Transport has shown that Mid Suffolk is still languishing near the bottom of the league table of electric vehicle charging provision.
At the beginning of last year, ahead of the elections, Mid Suffolk’s Conservative administration told the public they were " installing electric vehicle charging."
Since then they have only managed to get two installed and working, and other organisations have installed a further 7 public charging points. There are still no places on the A14 or A140 trunk roads for drivers far from home to boost their batteries.

Electric car owner and Green Party Councillor Andrew Stringer said:Andrew Stringer +E-car

"Despite being a rural county, necessitating higher mileage for many journeys, the data shows that 88% of councils are doing better than Mid Suffolk. With only 9 public charging points in the District and none on the Trunk roads residents are discouraged from taking the crucial step away from fossil fuel.  And Mid Suffolk really should be doing better, we even have a manufacturer of chargers in Stowmarket, we should be leading the way not lagging behind"
