Card payment parking option welcomed but shopping locally, within walking or cycling distance, is best

26 October 2020

Mid Suffolk District Council have introduced a card payment option at its car parks, which has been welcomed as a first step.

Councillor Dr Dan Pratt said:

“The paperless ticketing system is a welcome step towards reducing paper waste. In the next step towards zero-waste, we need to invest in a contactless payment system which would enable more customers to go ticketless.”

“This isn’t just about waste reduction in carparks, but also encouraging people to use local services in our towns. Local town centres could be pivotal in our pursuit for a more sustainable lifestyle, providing services that enable the re-use, recycling and repair of the things we already own.”

“We must also look beyond carparks and make active travel options more attractive. We need quicker and safer routes for walking and cycling and sheltered bicycle parking, for example”.
