Green Party Councillor - John Matthissen

John was first elected to Mid Suffolk District Council in 2007, and was then re-elected, with an overall majority of 55% of the votes, in 2011. He has served as a member of the Planning Committee throughout this period, as a member of the former Environment Policy Panel several times, and, for four years, as Vice-Chair of the Scrutiny Committee.

He also represents the Council at networking meetings of the voluntary sector.

John has lived in Mid Suffolk for more than three decades, and in that time has served on parish councils in Beyton, Elmswell, and Great Finborough. Previously an accountant and computer programmer, he now devotes most of his time to his role as Green Party District Councillor for the Onehouse ward, which includes the villages of Combs, Great and Little Finborough, Harleston, and Shelland, and as Co-ordinator of the Mid Suffolk Green Party.

John is a strong advocate of sustainable travel, including trains and buses.

His hobbies include gardening and bee-keeping.
