Rachel was elected as a Green Party District Councillor for the ward of Haughley and Wetherden in a by-election in March 2010.
She was re-elected, uncontested, in May 2011 and again in May 2015.
She is currently Leader of the Opposition, and prior to May 2018 was Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee. Rachel has served on the Development Management Committee and many working groups.
Her interests revolve around supporting local initiatives such as better cycleways and footpaths, local food production, community orchards, and greater access to domestic renewable energy.
Growing up in Woolpit, where her parents still live, Rachel attended local schools, including the then-new Stowupland High School.
She now lives in Haughley Green, and is a trustee of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust. She was a governor at Crawford's Primary School in Haughley, having earlier served on the committee for Haughley Pre-School.
Rachel has also been a trustee of the East of England Apples and Orchards Project, a charity that works to conserve orchard habitat and local heritage fruit varieties.
Her husband Richard Stacy is the Chair of the 1st Wetherden and Haughley Scout Group, and their two children attend local schools.
Rachel holds an environmental master’s degree, and was a trustee for the charity Campaign to Protect Rural England in London as well as the Environment Council, a charity centred on sustainability. She then became the Director of the Women’s Environmental Network, before returning to Suffolk with her family.
