Sarah Mansel was elected as a Green Party District Councillor for the Elmswell and Norton ward in 2011, supporting the three communities of Elmswell, Norton, and Tostock.
She has been instrumental in setting up the Elmswell Neighbourhood Plan steering group, which is now heading towards the consultation document.
As a Mid Suffolk District Councillor, Sarah has become increasingly involved with and interested in planning and the environment. She has been a member of the Joint Housing Board since 2015.
She is also passionate about sustainable transport – to the extent that, about 10 years ago, she gave up her car.
“That was one of the best decisions of my life,”
Sarah enthuses, adding,
“Having limited use of a car makes me fitter, better off financially, and more relaxed. Most people in my ward will have seen me cycling round the villages.”
An Elmswell resident since 1996 with her husband and two teenaged children, Sarah originally trained as a teacher and has taught science in several Suffolk schools. She was a parent governor at Elmswell Primary School, and also ran its Young Cyclist training course, before becoming a Bikeability instructor.
Currently she works as a senior assessment specialist, both with the production and marking of exams.
Apart from cycling, her other hobbies include orienteering, knitting, and Morris dancing.
