Council to fund electric rural bus provision with £820,000 over 2 years

Scheme is ‘green’ in more ways than one

Green & Liberal Democrat proposal for Mid Suffolk to buy two electric buses to provide scheduled services to rural villages lacking provision has been included in the Mid Suffolk DC Budget for 2022/23

While the buses are being sourced, practical details will be worked out, probably with social enterprise BSEVC, which already runs demand-responsive mini-bus services in the district.

Leader of the Green and Liberal Democrat group Councillor Andy Mellen said

“We are really pleased this proposal was accepted into the budget as it will address so many local needs and priorities. Many villages in our district have little or no bus provision at all so a modest scheduled route will provide them with reliable access to local services. We will help contain cost of living increases with affordable fares while improving air quality in the towns and lessening climate harming emissions.”
